Dishes pile up so fast.
While I ideally would never have a dirty dish out, this is not a reality.
I needed a plan to be sure I was working on dishes at an optimal time.
I needed to find out how to stay on top of the dishes.
My Plan To Stay On Top of the Dishes
First, I run the dishwasher every night.
Full or half full: that dishwasher is running every night.
But running the dishwasher is only half the battle. There needs to be a consistent time for unloading the dishwasher.
Every morning one of the kids will unload the dishwasher before school begins.
This chore rotates weekly between the 5 children.
What are the benefits of running the dishwasher every night?
I love going to sleep with an empty, clean sink. It makes it easier for me to get up in the morning and get ready for a brand new day with a clean sink.
As the kiddos are asking me for breakfast and quite possibly the caffeine has not kicked in yet, that clean sink helps me keep a tinge of sanity.
Other Kitchen Duties
The kitchen is a great place to have the kids help.
We clean up after each meal by having a crumb duty helper, a countertop cleaner, dish collector, and someone who keeps the little kids busy.

Ready for a Cleaner Kitchen?
I have found that by doing a load of dishes every night and unloading the dishwasher each morning, I am able to keep on top of the dishes without spending all day doing dishes.
It is all about working smarter, not harder so you can have time for the things that really matter!
