I have been thinking a lot about our evening routine lately!!
Sometimes I feel like we get in a good routine and other times it seems like a wash.
Ever feel that way?
I think the best thing to do is to reevaluate.
See what the hang ups are and go from there.
Let me show you what this looks like in our home.
#1: Stick to a Bedtime for School Nights
Even though we homeschool, I still stick to a bed time for school nights.
Kids need rest. Without proper rest, kids cannot be at their best the next day.
I choose a bedtime and do my absolute best to stick to it on school nights!
#2: Work Backwards from the Bedtime
Now that I know the bedtime (we aim for 8:00 in bed reading a book at our home for the kids) I work backwards to make that actually happen.
My goal is to start our evening rhythm around 7 (with sports it sometimes ends up being closer to 7:30!)
Our evening rhythm makes sure that we are doing activities together as a family, and I love having a plan!
#3: Plan Ahead for Evening Activities
Evenings are a busy time. I have found that a little planning ahead goes a long way.
I love having meals ready to go so we can eat at home together.
I rotate between the three depending on the meals. Right now, I am eating vegetarian so Dustin and the kids are enjoying the meatless dinners as well!
In addition to knowing whats for dinner, I like to have an idea of what we will do that night for our evening rhythm.
#4: Add in Family Meetings
Recently, I added family meetings to our evening routine.
Our plan is to meet as a family every Tuesday evening to talk over things as a family.
This can include behavioral issues, exciting things that are going on with the kids, and just a good meeting to go over our family goals.
#5: Read Great Books
My favorite part of our evening routine is reading great books before bed.
This year I will read a book a week.
Also, the kids are included reading a good book or two.
For the little kids, I am following books found in Give Your Child the World.
For the big kids, we read their book from Ambleside Online.
Which tip do you think will make your evenings more productive??
