Ever wonder how to keep it all together??
I know I do. ALL. THE. TIME.
Homeschool organization is no different.
Not only do I need a place to keep everything, but I need a system that will keep me on track.
I seem to start the school year in August with a bang. But start feeling a little weary and worn down in February.
Not this year!
What is different?
I am going to plan the whole year out in advance by using Kristi Clover’s Crate System.
I will walk you through how I have set up my crate system.
Any crate will work, file folders, and hanging file folders. That’s it!
This is the crate I choose because it has a lid!
Hanging File Folders – This is a 25 pack. Make sure you have enough for each week you will do school.
Colored File Folders, 1/3 cut – One color for each child.
First, set up your hanging file folders. Label them for each week you will be homeschooling.
I have 36 weeks – 5 days a week so I am getting to the 180 days that is required by our state.
However, I do not date my weeks. I know exactly how many days of “vacation” we can have so that we stay on track.
As the year progresses, I put the dates on the lesson plan and fill in our calendar.
So we may do one of the weeks on Wednesday – Tuesday.
It does not have to be Monday – Friday. This system is flexible. I just go in order!
Each child has their color folder. I also write down the week for each colored folder in case something gets misplaced! As you can see, Hartley helped me with the red folders. She is so excited to start school!
As I fill in the lesson plans (more on this on the binder post), I print out what is needed or tear out the sheets from the workbooks.
If the teacher’s manual is looseleaf, then I will stick that in with each week as well.
Everything that my kids need for that week of school work goes into the colored file folder for that week.
If we are starting a new book and it fits in the folder, I add it as well.
For items that will not fit into the folder, I put a piece of paper with the assignment or book name in the folder.
This takes a lot of time. But I am motivated to finish because I know how easy it will make homeschooling throughout the year.
The biggest benefit of the crate system is having everything in one location.
When we travel numerous times throughout the year, I place the lid on the crate and take it with us.
I know which books, worksheets, and printables we will need for the time that we will be gone.
I LOVE my crate.
I am so looking forward to this upcoming homeschool year with my organized crate!
