I am continuing on this journey to simplify my life.
So far, I have shown you that we need only to do what matters and my steps for saying yes to my kids and no to distractions.
Well, now it is time to do some evaluating.
We need to evaluate the draining aspects of our life.
Evaluations are usually never fun, but almost always necessary if we want to move forward.
If you think about a time when you were low on fuel, I know three words come to my mind:
- I was distracted.
- I was irritated.
- I was demanding.
As a mom of 5 kids, being distracted, irritated, and demanding are not three words I want my kids to associate with their mother.
I have found that when I am overwhelmed, stressed, and tired, I need to stop and evaluate the causes.
For me, I like to sit down and look at three main areas:
Today’s goal is to stop and think about the stresses you are facing emotionally, physically, and financially.
What am I carrying around that needs to be let out?
Carrying around bitter emotions and hurt feelings do us no good.
We are poisoning our insides with these feelings.
They need to be let out.
I have found two things to be very effective for me when I need emotional healing: journaling and talking it out.
Journaling is therapeutic. Just writing out all the crazy, jumbled thoughts in my head frees up space for me to find peace.
I have even been known to write letters in my journal that never get sent or read. It is just a way for me to place my feelings down on paper and out of my brain.
Talking it out is important as well. There are several times a week that I tell my husband; I just need to talk this out with you. I am not looking for a solution or an answer; I just need to get it off my chest.
It is always great to give the other person a quick heads up when you are going to unload something on them!
Stress causes us to need to get moving.
We need to burn some energy. When I am exhausted, I find that a quick 10-15 minute workout perks me right up.
I know that when my tank is low, I need to help my body out by moving. Keep it simple. Walk, jog, do push-ups or sit-ups. It does not have to be complicated. But your brain and body will thank you.
This stress and burden are so important that I am going to allow a whole post to discuss how to simplify finances.
