I was in a rut.
A big dinnertime rut.
I was tired of the same old routine.
I would spend hours searching Pinterest for gluten-free, dairy-free recipes that were relatively easy. Then, make the grocery list, then buy the food, put it all away, and wait, I still have to cook the actual meal.
Not only was it tiring, but half the time the meals I prepared were just ok.
Even after all of my effort.
Ready to learn two secrets that have made me not dread meal planning??
Secret #1: Meal Delivery Services
I was late to jump on the meal delivery service bandwagon.
First, I was unsure if they would have options for our food allergies.
Second, I was unsure how it worked.
Let me break it down.
I decided to try four meal delivery services over the course of a month.
Here are my thoughts on the meals we tried:
This meal service has been my favorite. I give it five stars.
I can always find gluten free options for our family. Plus, the meals feed our family of 7.
While the plan I chose is for four adults, I can make the meals feed our family of 2 adults and 5 young children.
I normally purchase an extra package of meat per meal at the local grocery store.
I have 3 HelloFresh boxes to giveaway. Click here to enter the giveaway. You must be a first-time HelloFresh customer.
Terra’s Kitchen is a more expensive meal delivery service, and one that just did not work for our family.
The meals were too small, and I would have to order two of each to feed our family. It was not cost-effective.
One pro of Terra’s Kitchen is that there is less prep work. For a young couple or working family, this would be a good option.

I was really hoping that Blue Apron would work for us.
It is by far the most cost-effective service. Unfortunately, they did not offer enough gluten-free options.
While the cost is less, the choice of meals is slim.
This would be a good choice for a family who is on a tight budget without food allergy issues.

We love Home Chef. I also give this one 5 stars!
The menus are allergy friendly, as well as kid-friendly.
I love the variety, such as breakfast for dinner and different takes on classics like butternut squash chili.

Secret #2: Online Grocery Shopping
I am in love with online grocery shopping.
It has saved me so much time.
First of all, I do all of my grocery shopping online by using our local HyVee store.
If you do not live near a HyVee, Shipt is a good alternative.
I also do my Sam’s Club shopping online.
Once ordered, all I have to do is pick up the items. They are waiting for me, ready to go.
Here is what I have learned about online grocery shopping:
- I stick to my list.
- No impulse buys.
- Saves time & money.
- Keeps me on track with our meal plan.
Now that I have the meal delivery service help and the shopping online, meal planning is no longer a dread.
I highly suggest you give it a try.
